Victor and Makayla wanted something low-key — just the two of them (and their pup) on a quiet stretch of Boston Harbor. Castle Island was the call: open water, big sky, and the kind of rocky shoreline that doesn't need posing to look good.
The session
We wandered, watched the sailboats, and let the afternoon do the work — sitting on the rocks, out on the dock, walking the shoreline, a playful stretch where nobody was posing at all. Victor said afterwards it didn't feel like a session, it felt like hanging out with a friend. That's the aim, and it's why the frames look the way they do.
Why Castle Island
It's the most honest Boston backdrop there is: the harbor, the fort, planes coming into Logan, the skyline off in the distance. Free parking, a loop you can walk in an hour, and enough space that you never feel watched. For a couple who'd rather be outside than in a studio, it's the easiest yes in the city.

Some sessions are about a big moment. This one was about being together — and that came through in every frame, right down to the last one, Victor in his Boston cap and Makayla pulled in close.
If you're planning a Castle Island session
- Earth tones and warm neutrals photograph best against the granite and the gray-blue harbor. Skip pure white and pure black.
- It's windy almost every day — bring a layer even in summer and wear shoes for gravel and grass.
- Dogs are welcome. The loop is flat and the shoreline gives them plenty to look at.
