Travis planned the proposal in the most meaningful spot — outside Area Four, the restaurant where he and Grace had their first date. A perfect full-circle moment.
The plan
A proposal outside a restaurant is a different problem from a park: there's no tree to stand behind, so I have to look like someone waiting for a table. We picked the time around dinner, I picked where I'd stand, and Travis's only cue was to stop before they went in.
The moment
Grace thought they were heading out for dinner. Then Travis knelt — no ring, just him and the question. Her reaction said everything: the second before she realized, then the realization, then the yes. A proposal without a ring is still a proposal, and honestly it made the moment about the two of them and nothing else.
Portraits after
Afterward we took a short walk for portraits as the excitement settled into quiet happiness — an embrace, a few frames of the two of them walking through Cambridge — and then the dinner she'd been expecting all along.
