Boston Public Garden Proposal — Connor & Katelyn
"He had it all mapped out — she never saw it coming."
- Location
- Boston Public Garden, by the pond
- Type
- Surprise proposal + portraits
- Also
- A winter walk back through the Garden under the holiday lights
Connor had a plan and a ring a few weeks before the day. We went back and forth on every detail — the route, the timing, where I'd be waiting — until it was simple enough that he didn't have to think about any of it.
The moment
On the day I set up near the pond well before they arrived. He brought Katelyn out on what looked like an ordinary afternoon stroll, led her toward the spot, and knelt. The rest was pure emotion — her reaction, the ring, the first kiss as an engaged couple. She had no clue I was there until it was all over.
Portraits after
We kept going while the light held: the two of them walking the paths, the swans on the pond behind them, Katelyn showing off the ring. Connor was flexible on timing that afternoon, which is what made the portraits possible — a rushed exit after the yes is the most common regret I hear.
One more visit
The last two frames in this gallery are from a winter evening back in the Garden — a kiss by the lagoon and a walk past the holiday-lit trees. Same place, a different season, and a good reminder that the Public Garden works twice: once for the question and again for the engagement session.
If you're planning a proposal at the Public Garden
- Decide early whether you want portraits after. It changes where I stand and how long we stay.
- Come back for the engagement session in a different season. Winter under the lights is a completely different gallery.
- A route with a natural pause — the pond, the bridge — makes the stop feel normal to your partner.
- Meeting points, timing and weather calls are in the Public Garden proposal guide, and proposal photography starts at $699.
“Moe did a fantastic job with proposal photos. He went above and beyond to capture the moment and was flexible with timing. The pictures came out great. I can't recommend him enough!”
