Jared reached out back in June with the Museum of Fine Arts already in mind, because it's a place that means something to the two of them — that's the kind of detail that makes a spot worth choosing: not the prettiest corner of the city, but the one that matters only to you. We stayed in touch through the summer and locked in a Sunday in September, and then the forecast turned ugly. Flood watch, a hundred percent chance of rain, one to two inches.
The plan
Every outdoor option in Boston was off the table that day — and if you've ever tried to weather-proof a photo session, you know swapping one park for another doesn't help, because it's raining at all of them. What saved this one is that the place that mattered to them was indoors from the start, so the afternoon didn't depend on the sky. I called ahead so there were no surprises at the door and nothing to sort out in front of Abigail.
The portraits
We shot outside under cover — the columns at the entrance, the wet lawn along the Fenway side between showers — and honestly the rain did us a favor. The crowds were gone and the light was soft all afternoon. Some of these are in black and white because that's what the day looked like.
