Chris started months ahead, and we built a clean plan together — timing, location, where I'd be hiding, the backup if it got crowded. Then the day came, and his timing didn't go exactly how he'd mapped it.

When the plan moves
He almost panicked. I told him not to worry — that's exactly what early scouting is for. I'd already been at the Seaport for an hour, so when his timing shifted I just adjusted on the fly. The plan flexed; the moment didn't.
The moment
He led Hailey to the spot, asked, and she said yes — completely surprised. Nothing about the delay made it into the photos, which is the point of being there early: the buffer is for you, and you never see it.
Portraits after
We wrapped with portraits along the waterfront — Hailey with the ring, the two of them against the harbor, a candid stretch along the Harborwalk. By the end you'd never have known anything was off, and Chris said as much in his review.
If you're planning a Seaport proposal
- Timing slips are normal — dinner runs long, the walk takes longer. I build an hour of buffer in so it never matters.
- Keep your phone on you for a discreet update if your arrival changes. One text is all it takes.
- Check the exact site, not just 'the Seaport' — the waterfront is long and each stretch faces the light differently.
